Bargerella, London’s only all-female floating vaudeville show!
Inspired by the brilliant women I have met who perform and live on the canals and the rivers around London, I spoke to the brilliant Alice Cade about putting on a night to celebrate all this incredible aquatic female loveliness Alice is a flatfoot dancer and the doyenne of the Village Butty – a floating, roving village hall packed to the beams with homemade horseradish vodka and sporting its very own captain and captive dog.
We have had gigs through the spring, summer and into the winter. On the towpaths at Hackney Wick and Springfield Park and we’re now off to Angel and out west.
Our stage has hosted improvised flamenco, the women of the London Bulgarian Choir, queer striptease, clowning, storytelling, tales of the riverbank, singer songwriting and we always end with a right old knees up.
Our next gig is on March 30th 2018 and you can get tickets here:
Check us out on Resonance FM on a special radio show made for International Women’s Day and featuring Kate Saffin, Sophie Cameron, Andrea Spisto, Alice Cade and Keleigh Wolf – with music from Charmain Wombwell and poems from Salena Godden.
